    THE DARA KNOT

The Dara Knot symbolises the magnificent strength of the oak tree and conveys the concepts of wisdom, power, endurance and strength

The Dara Celtic Knot is one of several ancient Celtic symbols for strength and inner strength. The symbol derives from the Gaelic word ‘Doire’, which means ‘Oak Tree’.

The Dara Knot is believed to symbolise the magnificent and extremely strong root system that robustly holds up the heavy body of any and every ancient oak tree.

The Celts had an extremely strong reverie of trees. In particular, they believed that oak trees were sacred.

The Celts saw the oak as a symbol for wisdom, power, endurance and strength, and it’s not hard to see why. To this day the oak is regarded as the ‘King of the Forest’.

The oak is a deciduous tree that grows slowly. In fact, it can live for a staggering 300 years and grow up to 40 metres in height. If that isn’t a fine symbol for strength, I don’t know what is!

As is the case with the other Celtic Knot symbols, the Celtic Dara Knot consists of intertwined lines with no beginning or end.

Although there is no one symbol for the Dara Knot, each variation is centred on one common theme – the mighty oak and its root system.

It’s widely believed that this symbol was called upon by the ancient Celts to provide strength and inner wisdom in tough situations.
