    THE CELTIC SHIELD KNOT

The Celtic Shield Knot symbolises safety and protection for the warrior and also safety and protection against illness and injury

The Celtic Shield Knot is an ancient Celtic symbol of protection. It was included on the ornamentation of battle shields to protect the warrior during battle, but it was also used as a symbol placed near ill people for warding off evil spirits or any other danger.

It has been made in several design variations over the centuries but its uniqueness lies in its four distinct corners. A Shield Knot is usually shaped as a square or appears to be a square within a circle. The horizontal and vertical arms combine to depict the connection between the temporal and the eternal, all surrounded by a circle that keeps things in harmony.

Besides being an integral part of the Celtic culture, the Shield Knot is also believed to have been used by several other cultures around the world for the same purpose of offering protection from harm and danger.

The meaning of the Shield Knot is obvious and comforting. It is a symbol of safety and protection against, danger, ill health, bad luck and misfortune
